Timothy Kitum

Timothy Kitum (born November 20, 1994 in Marakwet District ) is a Kenyan middle-distance runner who specializes in the 800-meter run .

Career and Success

Kitum gained his first international experience at the World Athletics Championships in 2011 in Lille, where he won the bronze medal over 800 meters behind his compatriot Leonard Kirwa Kosencha and the Ethiopian Mohammed Aman . In 2012 he reached the semi-finals over the same distance at the World Indoor Championships in Istanbul . At the Junior World Championships in Barcelona he was second behind Nijel Amos from Botswana. He also drew attention to himself in the season with top placements at athletics meetings such as the Shanghai Golden Grand Prix , the FBK Games in Hengelo and the Golden Gala in Rome.

Kitum celebrated his most significant success to date at the Olympic Games in London , for which he qualified as runner-up in the Kenyan elimination competitions. Behind his compatriot and world record holder David Lekuta Rudisha and Nijel Amos, he won the bronze medal in a personal best of 1: 42.53 minutes.

Timothy Kitum is 1.72 m tall and weighs 60 kg.
