Desiree Singh (born August 17, 1994 in Detmold , North Rhine-Westphalia ) is a former German athlete who specialized in the pole vault .
career path
In 2011, Singh graduated from the Heinrich-Drake-Realschule in Detmold and moved to the upper level (EF) of the Grabbe-Gymnasium, a school of the network system "School and competitive sport". Thus, even before the birth of her first child, precautions could be taken so that the pole vaulter could return to competitive sports by extending the 11th grade to two years. In the summer of 2014, Singh left high school and started a voluntary social year (FSJ) at the Kreissportbund , at the end of which was the technical diploma . In September 2014, Singh acquired the Trainer-C license in Kaiserau , supervised young up-and-coming athletes in gymnastics and pole vaulting independently during the social year at her home club, worked in the open all-day school in Heiligenkirchen and offered "fun and games" at TV Frisch On Heidenoldendorf from 1896. From the beginning of 2015, Singh had to interrupt her sporting career for a long time due to a serious injury at the German Indoor Championships . At the end of April 2016, she gave birth to her second child. Singh continued the apprenticeship as a district secretary trainee at the Lippe district as well as her sports career. She completed her training in spring 2017.
Athletic career
Desiree Singh began in her fifth year with the competitive sports and competed in gymnastics until the age of eleven in the performance squad. In 2007 a friend, the pole vaulter Lilli Schnitzerling , took her to her pole vault training. Singh achieved some good placements at German championships in their respective age groups.
In 2011 she became U18 world champion in Villeneuve-d'Ascq (France) .
After Singh was best of the year of the U18 in 2010 with 4.20 m, she succeeded again in 2011 and with a clear gap to the runner-up with 4.32 m, which means she was also best of the year under the age of twenty. After a baby break in 2012, Singh was again best of the year in 2014 with 4.36 m, this time in the juniors.
In 2013, Singh won two youth runner -up titles , indoors and outdoors, but failed at the U20 European Championships in Rieti (Italy) at the self-chosen starting height.
In 2014, Singh took 3rd place at the German U23 Championships and top places among the athletes in the hall and in the open air.
In 2015, Singh finished 5th at the German Indoor Championships at the beginning of the year , but was seriously injured. She could not contest an outdoor season and because of the birth of her second child at the end of April 2016, she could not start another season in a row.
In 2017, with a season best of 4.20 meters, she set the standard for participation in the German Championships in Erfurt on June 21 , where she continued to improve and finished 8th with 4.25 meters.
In 2019, Singh took part in the German Indoor Championships where she took 5th place with 3.90 m. On May 23, she announced the end of her active career.
