The Kaiserau sports school is a training and further education facility of the Westfalen eV football and athletics association in the Methler district of Kamen . The name is derived from the proximity to the Kaiserau location .

history

The former municipality of Westick received in 1936 from Harpener Bergbau AG the sum of 100,000 Reichsmarks as compensation for the obligation to pay poor money entered into when Sections V-VIII of the Kaiserau colliery colony were established . With part of this sum, the community built a youth home for the Hitler Youth , which was built between 1938 and 1941 and inaugurated on July 20, 1941. After the end of the war, the community initially leased the home to the German Federation of Trade Unions . In 1948, the home went to the Football Association of Westphalia through lease and purchase agreements with areas of around 18 acres including the community sports field . With the purchase proceeds, the community built a new sports field with standing stands and an outdoor swimming pool in the immediate vicinity of the site.

Initially, the association only had a conference and dining room and sleeping accommodations for 40 people in the former Hitler Youth home, which had remained almost unchanged. By 1952, the capacity was increased to 75 people, shortly afterwards to 105 people. When the association bought the house, an extension with a sports hall and a sports field was planned. This hall was opened by the Association Day on June 28, 1952 and was initially also available for public events such as concerts.

In the following years, the sports school was expanded significantly with additional sports halls and sports fields.

Since 2006, the Kaiserau sports school has operated under the name SportCentrum Kamen-Kaiserau , consisting of the actual sports school, a sports hotel and a sports conference center. There is also a girls' football boarding school on the premises. The area has been rounded off by the Hans Tilkowski House since July 13, 2014 . The new Hans-Tilkowski-Haus is a meeting place and a think tank for the external presentation of the association.

During the 2006 World Cup , the sports school hosted the Spanish national soccer team . It also hosted the German national handball team during the 2007 handball world championship .

In 2017, the sports center was in the headlines because of the sexual assaults of its director against several employees that were revealed by the news magazine Der Spiegel . After it became known, he left the service with immediate effect, but received a severance payment of € 120,000 approved by the executive committee of the Football and Athletics Association of Westphalia eV . In the further course the FLVW President Gundolf Walaschefski made his offices available.
