The VfL Kommern is a German sports club based in Kommern , a district of Mechernich , which was founded 1960th The club offers several sports options, including soccer , gymnastics , table tennis , badminton , volleyball and a running club.

Sports

Soccer

The women's soccer team in particular is quite successful. The club has been playing in the Regionalliga West , the third highest division in German women's football, since 2008 . In the 2005/06 season, VfL Kommern also played in the DFB Cup . There the team was eliminated after a 4-0 defeat against FFC Wacker Munich . In the 2011/12 season , the club took part in the DFB Cup again after the team won the FVM Cup .

In their second participation in the cup competition, the VfL women sensationally defeated the second division 1. FC Köln 2-1 after extra time and made it into the second DFB Cup main round as a complete surprise. The multiple German champions 1. FFC Frankfurt was waiting there and they lost 0: 6 in front of around 1000 spectators. For the 2012/13 season, the club could not put together a powerful group and announced the team from the league.

The men's team of VfL Kommern plays in the district league after the club was relegated from the district league in 2010. The club plays its home games in the Wälschbachstadion in Kommern.

The men's volleyball team has been playing in the district volleyball league since 2010. The women's team plays in the district league.

badminton

The badminton department of VfL Kommern was able to prevent relegation from the district league in the 2010/11 season.

Michael Surbach from the VfL Kommern running club has already taken part in the Ironman three times (2005, 2007, 2009).
