Norbert Ringels (born September 16, 1956 in Mönchengladbach ) is a former German football player .

career

Norbert "Nonno" Ringels played in the Bundesliga for Borussia Mönchengladbach from 1975 to 1985 and played 163 games (6 goals) for the foal team. The defender was able to celebrate two German championship titles under coach Udo Lattek in his first years. In 1979 he triumphed with Borussia in the UEFA Cup final against Red Star Belgrade . In the defeat in the final of the DFB Cup in 1984 against Bayern Munich , he was one of Borussia's two missed shooters alongside Lothar Matthäus in the decisive penalty shoot-out . In 1985 he moved to VVV-Venlo .

From July 2008 Ringels coached the first team of the district league club SV Mönchengladbach , the home club of the former German national player Marcell Jansen . He is currently a member of the coaching and supervisory staff of the traditional team "Die Weisweiler Elf". Ringels lives in Mönchengladbach, works as a commercial clerk, is the father of two children and has three grandsons.
