The 1976/77 season was the 21st season of the third-class Verbandsliga Westfalen . The champion was Rot-Weiß Lüdenscheid , which prevailed in the following round of promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga . Teutonia Lippstadt and Spvg Steinhagen descended from Group 1, and Lüner SV and SC Neheim-Hüsten from Group 2 . No Westphalian team was relegated from the 2nd Bundesliga. From the national leagues rose to group 1 of ASC Schöppingen , TSG Harsewinkel and TuS Schloß Neuhaus and group 2 of VfL Bad Berleburg and BV Brambauer .

The teams from Recklinghausen, Wanne-Eickel and Wattenscheid tied for points had to determine the runners-up in a decision-making round. The games took place in the league system . Wanne-Eickel prevailed and moved into the qualifying game for the German Amateur Championship.

The two group winners determined the Westphalia champion in the two legs. In contrast to previous years, both teams qualified for the promotion round to the 2nd Bundesliga . The games took place on May 8th and 15th, 1977. Lüdenscheid prevailed and became Westphalia champion.

The two runners-up in the group determined the Westphalian participant in the German Amateur Championship in the two-legged game . The games took place on May 8th and 15th, 1977. Wanne-Eickel prevailed.

Playoffs against relegation

As a precaution, the two third-last determined the fifth relegated from the Association League Westphalia in the return leg. The games took place on May 8th and 15th, 1977. Hamm asserted himself athletically. Since no Westphalian team was relegated from the 2nd Bundesliga and Rot-Weiß Lüdenscheid was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga, the playoffs were meaningless. Both teams stayed in the association league.
