The 1965/66 season was the tenth season of the third-class Verbandsliga Westfalen . Champion was Hammer SpVg , which made the leap into the regional league in the following round of promotion, just like SSV Hagen . TBV Lemgo and the amateurs of FC Schalke 04 got out of group 1 ; from group 2 of SC Dahlhausen , Arminia Ickern . The STV Horst-Emscher rose from the Regionalliga West to the Association League . TuS Ahlen , SV Brackwede , SC Gelsenkirchen 07 , RSV Höh and SpVg Marl rose from the national leagues .

Westphalia Championship
The two group winners should return game determined the Westfalen champion. Since the SSV Hagen renounced the Hammer SpVg was declared Westphalia champion without a fight. Both teams qualified for the promotion round to Regionalliga West .
Qualification for the German Amateur Championship
In order to determine the Westphalian participant in the German amateur championship in time, the runner-up in season 1 SpVgg Erkenschwick and the Westphalian runner-up SSV Hagen should determine the participant in the two-legged game . However, SSV Hagen applied for and received the license for the Regionalliga West. The two games played on May 11 and 14, 1966 were retrospectively rated as friendlies .

Finally, a playoff between the runners-up of the two seasons was scheduled. This game took place on May 18, 1966 in the neutral Dortmund - Hombruch .
