Since both teams were equal on points and the away goals rule did not yet apply, a playoff was set on May 16, 1965 in the neutral Recklinghausen Viktoria-Kampfbahn . This game ended in a draw after extra time , so the decision had to be made by tossing a coin . A legend says that the Bochum were already beginning to cheer before the coin hit the ground at the referee to influence.
