history

Germania Datteln was founded in 1916 and immediately started playing with a 3-0 win against SpVgg Erkenschwick . The greatest success in the club's history was after promotion to the state league , the highest Westphalian amateur league at the time, in 1953. Three years later , Germania qualified for the newly created Association League Westphalia . In the round of 16 of the West German Cup in 1959/60, Germania Datteln reached a 2-2 nV against eventual cup winner Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Ostring Stadium at home on May 29, 1960 , but lost the replay.

There the team won the season in 1961 ahead of Arminia Bielefeld and after a 2-0 play-off win against Sportfreunde Siegen, they became Westphalia champions. In the subsequent round of promotion to the II. Division , Germania came in last and after the Siegburger SV 04 waived promotion, they did not move up.

In 1964 , Germania was relegated from the association league before it went down to the district league three years later. After a runner-up in 1975 behind SpVgg Erkenschwick II, he was promoted back to the national league in 1982. There the Dattelner were runner-up behind SV Wilmsberg in 1986 . Six years later, he was again relegated to the district league. In 2001 he was again promoted to the national league. In November of the same year it came out that the association had not paid taxes for years and was in debt with 250,000 marks . Germania had to file for bankruptcy and was dissolved in April 2002.
