Helmut Winklhofer (born August 27, 1961 in Irsham, Fürstenzell market , Passau district) is a former German football player .

Career as a player

Winklhofer was in the professional squad of FC Bayern Munich at the beginning of the 1980/81 season . Used in midfield, he made his debut on November 7, 1981 (13th matchday of the 1981/82 season) when he was substituted on for Wolfgang Kraus in the second half in the home game against MSV Duisburg (4-0). On May 29, 1982 (34th matchday) he came to his second assignment, in which he also with the intermittent 1: 1 in the 44th minute, in the 1: 3 defeat in the away game against VfL Bochum , his first Bundesliga goal scored.

From 1982 to 1985 he played for Bayer 04 Leverkusen as a defender, and in the last season as a midfielder.

After three seasons he returned to Bayern Munich, and on matchday 1, August 10, 1985, he had an unparalleled mishap: Bayern made a guest appearance at Bayer 05 Uerdingen and with a failed shot in goal he overcame the from 35 meters Munich goalkeeper Jean-Marie Pfaff . This hit not only represented the final score, but was also one of the strangest own goals in Bundesliga history and was the first own goal ever to be voted goal of the month in the ARD Sportschau .

Winklhofer played his last Bundesliga game on November 26, 1988 (matchday 16), when 1. FC Nürnberg were defeated 1-0 at home. Although he was still a member of the club for the 1989/90 season , he was no longer used due to injury.

On September 23, 1978 Winklhofer made his debut in the U-18 national team which defeated Austria 2-1 in Weinheim . In his penultimate game for this national team he scored his only international goal on May 18, 1989 in Gommern as part of the UEFA youth tournament in the 6-2 win over Finland .

Winklhofer won the Junior World Championship at the age of 20 . In the final on October 18, 1981 in Sydney, Germany won 4-0 with Winklhofer in the starting line-up against Qatar. One of the goalscorers in the final was Roland Wohlfarth from MSV Duisburg , who would later become Winklhofer's team-mate at Bayern . Together with Ralf Loose , the Bavarian was the top goalscorer of the West German junior national team with four goals in six games.

Furthermore, he came to two missions in the U-21 national team in 1983 :

  • on February 22nd in Setúbal in a 3-1 win over Portugal in which he scored a goal and
  • on March 29th in Shkodra in the 1-1 draw against the selection of Albania

Career as a coach

After his professional career at FC Bayern Munich, he was player-coach at TSV Emmering from 1991 to December 1994 and again in 2002/03 . From 2007 to 2011 he was the coach of the first team at ASV Rott / Inn .
