society
The FC Einheit Rudolstadt was founded on November 11, 1950 as BSG Einheit Rudolstadt . As early as 1957, Rudolstadt, together with Stahl Silbitz and Chemie Elsterberg, achieved promotion to the 2nd GDR league . The then third-highest division in the GDR turned out to be a size too big for the East Thuringians. After only one season, the unit and Motor Gotha had to join the district league.
In the period that followed, the Rudolstadt unit acted exclusively on the local level of the Gera district , with the club mainly serving to train the next generation of FC Carl Zeiss Jena . Intermittent relegations to the district class was followed by an immediate return to the Gera district league . In terms of sport, Einheit Rudolstadt was no longer able to keep up with Rudolstadt's local rival Chemie Schwarza , who made it into the GDR league several times .
After the reunification in 1990, the Rudolstadt unit merged with the football department of Chemie Schwarza to form FC Rudolstadt / Schwarza . In 1996, however, the two clubs separated again. While Einheit returned to its old name, Chemie joined the successor club SV 1883 Schwarza . In the 2011/12 season, FC Einheit Rudolstadt took 3rd place in the sixth class Thuringia league, which entitles them to promotion to the Oberliga Nordost after the second-placed team, Eintracht Sondershausen , has waived .
