The sports club Silbitz / Crossen is based in the eastern Thuringian town of Silbitz . Its predecessor, the Betriebsportgemeinschaft (BSG) Stahl Silbitz, became known nationwide between 1958 and 1982 thanks to its football team.
history
1950s and 1960s
Supported by its sponsoring company VEB Stahlgießerei Silbitz, the largest employer in the region between Gera and Eisenberg , BSG Stahl was able to build a soccer team in the town of Silbitz, which has around 800 inhabitants, and which was promoted to the Gera district league in 1953, which was then the third division in GDR soccer . After just four years, the steelworkers won the district championship and thus qualified for the 2nd GDR league , now the 3rd league after restructuring in GDR football.
Between 1958 and 1960, BSG Stahl reached midfield positions and first drew national attention in 1959, when the team reached the second main round in the GDR soccer cup and only missed the second round there in a 1: 3 against league rivals Chemie Leuna . In the 1961/62 season Silbitz was only the relay and rose again from the district league. A year later there was another descent into the district class, but this was followed by a regular ascent. For eight years, Stahl Silbitz was now a regular in the Gera district league, which has now become third class again, but in 1972 you had to relegate to the district class again as third from bottom.
From the 1970s to 1990
This was followed by an up and down between fourth and third division before the team was able to establish itself again in the district league in the long term from 1975. A team was built around the player-coach Siegfried Halthof, who had come from the second division side Wismut Gera , which not only managed to hold its own in the district league, but also won the district championship again in 1981, which this time was linked to qualification for the second-rate GDR league . Reinforced by Werner Schorrig, who had played 19 games for Wismut Gera in the upper league , the highest GDR football class, and goalkeeper Harald Marquard, former second division player at Motor Hermsdorf and Motor Zeulenroda , the team, who was on average 26 years old, tried their hand at the GDR -Liga to claim. The Elstertal sports facility was built by the steelworks and had space for 5,000 spectators. Although the GDR league, with its 60 teams spread over five seasons, was not of a very high standard, it was only enough for two wins and 15 goals in the 22 games, which were matched by 18 defeats and 66 goals against. As the bottom of the table, the chapter GDR League was completed.
Then fought Stahl Silbitz with the final places 14 and 13 in the district league against further relegation, which then overtook the team in the 1984/85 season. The remaining years of GDR football were spent by the steelworkers in the fourth class district class. Between 1986 and 1993, the 31-time GDR national player Manfred Kaiser worked as a coach in Silbitz.
Development from 1990
In 1990, BSG Stahl had to restructure itself, as the system of company sports associations could no longer be maintained with the new economic conditions as a result of the political change in 1989 . The Elstertal Silbitz / Crossen sports club was founded, whose football team continued to play only in the lower class. It was not until 2007 that they were promoted to the Thuringia regional league, which was then seventh class, and after the introduction of the third division from 2008 it only functions as the eighth division. After the league reform in Thuringian football at the beginning of the 2010/11 season, the club plays in the regional class Season 2 (8th level) for two years. In 2012 he was promoted to the Thuringia regional class (7th level).
On January 3, 2009, SV Elstertal Silbitz / Crossen took part in the state championships in the hall for the first time in the club's history, but was eliminated in the preliminary round. Three weeks later he became the first time OTFB indoor champion. In January 2010 they took part again in the preliminary round of the indoor state championship and became runner-up.
