Regionalliga Nordost 2016/17

The 2016/17 season of the Oberliga Nordost was the 26th season of the Oberliga Nordost and the ninth as the fifth-highest division in Germany. It began on August 5, 2016 in the North Season with the game between Hertha Zehlendorf and FC Strausberg and in the South with the game between SG Union Sandersdorf and FSV Barleben and ended on June 3, 2017.

Attendees

A total of 32 clubs, divided into two seasons (North and South), took part in the 2016/17 season. The exact seasons were published by the NOFV on June 10, 2016. The Brandenburger SC Süd 05 was regrouped from the north to the south. The following clubs had qualified in terms of sport:

Since no club from the Thuringia League had registered for the Oberliga 2016/17, the number of relegated teams decreased at the end of the 2015/16 season according to an addition to the promotion and relegation regulation decided by the NOFV.

Promotion and relegation regulation

The champions of the two league seasons were entitled to promotion to the Regionalliga Nordost. Since FC Carl Zeiss Jena was promoted to the 3rd division , the two second-placed teams in the Oberliga relays played for the remaining starting place for the Regionalliga Nordost.

Since there was no report from the Thuringian league for the coming season, SV Germania 90 Schöneiche declared their withdrawal and the second team from RB Leipzig and FC Schönberg 95 withdrew from the higher regional league, the relegation places were reduced to the last table position in accordance with the regulations North and South league seasons.

After five years in the Oberliga, the FSV Union Fürstenwalde left the North Season as champions in the direction of the Northeast Regional League . From this, the FSV Optik Rathenow is returning, which after only one year of the regional league had to make its way back to the major league and had gained the image of an elevator team with four class changes within the last five seasons .

At the lower end of the table, two teams had to make their way to the association leagues. To the bottom of the table BSV Hürtürkel , who was the only team to be relegated in a sporting way and left the league after three seasons, 1. FC Neubrandenburg 04 joined them , who filed for bankruptcy in March 2016 and thus forcibly left the league after five years of membership.

New in the 2016/17 season were from the Berlin league VSG Altglienicke , from the Brandenburg league SV Grün-Weiß Brieselang and from the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania association league of FC Mecklenburg Schwerin . While the Brandenburgers competed in the league for the first time in their club history, the Schwerin team last played in this division in the 2002/03 season , then under the name Eintracht Schwerin . The Berliners returned to the fifth division after their voluntary withdrawal in the 2013/14 season .

The Brandenburger SC Süd 05 was transferred from the northern relay to the southern relay in order to balance the relay strength with 16 teams each. The total shortest distance to the members of the southern relay played a role here. In the event that instead of BSG Chemie Leipzig the BSG Stahl Riesa had managed to climb out of the Saxons league would Hertha Zehlendorf change to the Season South instead of the Brandenburger SC South 05th

As the sovereign relay winner of the previous year, 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig managed to return to the Regionalliga Nordost after two years in the Oberliga. In return, VfB Germania Halberstadt had to make their way back to the league for the first time after five seasons of higher-class football.

As in the previous year, the relegation question in the South Season at the end of the 2015/16 season was resolved exclusively through voluntary withdrawals and team dissolutions. Sun broke the FC Rot-Weiss Erfurt and Energie Cottbus their U-23 teams at the end of the season. In addition, FC Eisenach announced shortly after the winter break that they would not apply for a league license for the 2016/17 season, although they were already in the last place in the table.

The three eliminated teams faced only two promoted teams from the association classes, as no club from the Thuringian League reported for the Oberliga. Only BSG Chemie Leipzig from the Sachsenliga and SV Merseburg 99 entered the league as champions of the Sachsen-Anhalt Association League. For the Leipziger it is the first appearance in the fifth highest division, whereas the Merseburgers return to the upper league after twenty years in lower class leagues.

In order to compensate for the strength of the squadrons, the Brandenburger SC Süd 05 was also regrouped from the northern season to the southern season.
