Promotion games to the regional league

The relegation games between the winners of the North and South Relays were played by the amateurs from Hertha BSC and Dynamo Dresden. Dresden won the first leg on June 2, 2002 in Dresden 1-0. Therefore, the team handed in the second leg on June 9, 2002 in Berlin a 0-0 to secure promotion to the regional league.

Play against relegation

Since at the end of the season it was not yet exactly clear which teams from the regional league would have to relegate or which teams would receive a league license, games against relegation were carried out as a precautionary measure. The fourteenth, fifteenth and sixteenth of the tables of the two seasons competed against each other in a back and forth leg in order to be able to make a decision in the event of uneven relegation numbers. In retrospect, the relegation games were irrelevant, as after the end of the season against FC Stahl Riesa 98 , Greifswalder SC and BFC Dynamo, insolvency proceedings were opened, which resulted in these clubs being forced to relegate.

Fourteenth table games

The two fourths of the table in the northern season (FC Eintracht Schwerin) and the southern season (Eintracht Sondershausen) met in two games. The first leg on June 2, 2002 in Schwerin ended with a 2-2 draw and the second leg on June 8th in Sondershausen was a 1-1 draw. Due to the away goals rule , Eintracht Sondershausen emerged as the winner of the games. After FC Stahl Riesa 98 had to file for bankruptcy after the end of the season and all games against this club were subsequently canceled, the table was recalculated and Eintracht Sondershausen was subsequently thirteenth.

total First leg Return leg
FC Eintracht Schwerin 3: 3 Eintracht Sondershausen 2: 2 (0: 1) 1: 1 (0: 1)

Matches of the table fifteenth

The two table fifteenth of the northern season (FV Motor Eberswalde) and the southern season (FC Stahl Riesa 98) should meet in two games. After the first leg in Eberswalde on June 2, 2002 ended 9-1 for Stahl Riesa, FV Motor Eberswalde did not play for the second leg, so this game was rated 2-0 for Riesa. However, since FC Stahl Riesa 98 had to file for bankruptcy at the end of the season, the club rose anyway.

Games of the table sixteenth

The two table sixteenth of the northern season (Optik Rathenow) and the southern season (VfB Chemnitz) met in two games. Both teams lost their home game. The first leg on June 2, 2002 in Rathenow ended with 1: 2 and the second leg on June 8 in Chemnitz 0: 1. Due to the away goals rule , VfB Chemnitz emerged as the winner of the games. After recalculating the table due to the insolvency of FC Stahl Riesa 98 , the Chemnitz team occupied 15th place at the end of the season.
