Burkau ( Upper Sorbian Porchow ) is a place and the associated municipality west of Bautzen in eastern Saxony .
Geography and traffic
Burkau is located in the center of the Bautzen district in a wooded area in Upper Lusatia . The place itself is located in the valley of the young monastery water , which rises at the western end of the village. The source of the Black Elster in the north-west Lusatian hill country is also nearby .
The community is located about 6 km north of Bischofswerda and 16 km west of the district town of Bautzen . It is located on the federal motorway 4 ( Dresden - Görlitz ). The connection points Burkau and Uhyst am Taucher are located in the municipality. The Bischofswerda – Kamenz railway was torn down, the station building in Burkau was preserved.
history
Burkau was first mentioned in 1164, according to other sources not until 1312. The current large community was created in 1994 as part of the municipal reform from the three independent communities Burkau, Uhyst am Taucher and Kleinhchenchen with their districts.

mayor
From the political turning point in 1990 to 2012, Hans-Jürgen Richter ( FDP ) was mayor of the municipality of Burkau. The mayoral elections on December 9, 2012 were won by the CDU candidate Sebastian Hein. He was confirmed in office in the mayoral election on October 27, 2019.

Since the municipal council election on May 25, 2014 , the 14 seats of the municipal council have been distributed among the individual groups as follows:
