geography

The large district town of Bautzen is about 5 kilometers to the west. In the south is the Oberlausitzer Bergland with the Czorneboh as the second highest and the Valtenberg as the highest mountain. The national borders with the Czech Republic are about 25 kilometers south, with Poland about 40 kilometers east.

The community is bordered by Malschwitz in the north, Weißenberg and Hochkirch in the east, Cunewalde and Großpostwitz in the south and Bautzen in the west.

Community structure

In addition to Kubschütz itself, the municipal area of Kubschütz includes the following districts:

Baschütz

The village of Baschütz is located about 2 km north of the Kubschütz town center. The former four-sided courtyard with mansion (Schkade Castle) is located at the crossroads with the monument.

Baschützer brass musicians

The Baschützer brass musicians under the musical direction of Jan Chlebniček celebrated their 90th anniversary in 2014. The Moravian brass band "Mistrinanka" played as guests on October 5th, 2014.

history

The oldest known mention of the place as Cupcici comes from 1088. Up until the 19th century Kubschütz formed an enclave of the Stolpen office within the area administered from Bautzen.

For his statistics on the Sorbian population in Upper Lusatia, Arnošt Muka determined a population of 245 inhabitants in the 1880s; 228 of them were Sorbs (93%) and 17 were Germans. According to Ernst Tschernik , the Sorbian-speaking proportion of the population in the municipality (including Blösa, Scheckwitz and Soritz) had decreased to 49.8% by 1956.

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent municipality of Soritz was incorporated. Further regional reforms incorporated Canitz-Christina in 1973 and Rachlau in 1974. In the course of the municipal reform of 1994, the municipalities of Jenkwitz, Kubschütz and Purschwitz were merged to form the new municipality of Kubschütz.
