history

In 1466 the Budissiner Ratsdorf is mentioned under the name Sawritz (possibly Säuritz). Later names are Schornitz (1534), Souritz (1589) and since 1657 Soritz.

Soritz was a Sorbian village until the 20th century. The scientist Arnošt Muka counted 128 inhabitants in 1884/85, of whom 113 were Sorbs . Meanwhile, the use of Sorbian has fallen sharply.

Until June 30, 1950 Soritz was an independent rural community with the district Scheckwitz (since 1936).
