geography

The Rundling is to the right of the floodplain of the Albrechtsbach on the road from Niederkaina to Purschwitz . Immediately to the south is the Bautzen-Litten airfield . To the north of Litten are the Albrechtsbach and the Kreckwitzer Heights .

history

The district was already settled in the early days. In 1910, an East Germanic burial ground was discovered on a knoll in the northeastern part of the corridor. A burial ground from the early Iron Age was found east of the village. In the southern part of the corridor, numerous remains of the cord ceramic vessels were recovered.

The first written evidence of the place was in 1237 by a "Henricus Misnensis de Letonin". In the Bautzen Dingbuch from 1362, several citizens with the name "Leteny" are mentioned, who probably came from the village. Originally Litten belonged to the estates of the diocese of Meißen , later the diocese donated the episcopal tithe from Litten to the cathedral monastery of Bautzen . Finally, Litten came to the Purschwitz manor , which in 1580 sold most of the village to the city of Bautzen and a small portion of the Bautzen bailiff. On May 21, 1813, during the Battle of Bautzen, General Yorck's troops held the place and defended it to the extreme. As they withdrew, they set Litten on fire.

With the establishment of the parade ground for the Bautzen garrison, the municipality of Litten lost large parts of its corridors in 1911. In 1934 Litten was incorporated into Purschwitz. Litten airfield was established in 1938. Together with Purschwitz, Litten became part of the Kubschütz community in 1994. Litten belongs to the Purschwitz parish.

Population and language

For his statistics on the Sorbian population in Upper Lusatia, Arnošt Muka determined a population of 92 inhabitants in the 1880s; among them were 88 Sorbs and four Germans. The language change to German in Litten only took place after the Second World War .

In the 1970s the village had just under 100 residents.
