Scheckwitz , in Sorbian , is a village with 26 inhabitants in the eastern Saxon district of Bautzen , which belongs to the municipality of Kubschütz . It belongs to Upper Lusatia and belongs to the official Sorbian settlement area .
geography
Scheckwitz is located about seven kilometers southeast of the large district town of Bautzen on the northern slope of the Czorneboh massif in the headwaters of a small tributary of the Wuischker water. The terrain is hilly and slopes slightly to the northwest. The surrounding landscape is hardly forested. The neighboring towns are Waditz in the northeast, Soritz directly in the south, Blösa in the southwest and Kubschütz in the northwest.
After the settlement, Scheckwitz is a farming hamlet.
history
The place is mentioned around 1400 as Czakewicz , later then Czackewitz (1419) and finally Scheckwitz (1562).
Scheckwitz was an independent rural community until 1936, when it was incorporated into Soritz . On July 1, 1950, the Soritz community came to Kubschütz.
population
For his statistics on the Sorbian population in Upper Lusatia, Arnošt Muka determined a population of 57 inhabitants in the 1880s; all of them were Sorbs . In the 20th century, the number of Sorbian speakers, as everywhere in the Protestant part of the settlement area, decreased sharply.
In 1925, 61 of the 70 inhabitants were of the Evangelical Lutheran denomination. The place has been parish to Hochkirch since the 16th century.
Infrastructure
Scheckwitz is not far from Bundesstraße 6 (Bautzen- Görlitz ) and the Kubschütz train station.
