geography

The square village is north-east of Kubschütz in the hilly area Many Mountains in front of the Czorneboh train. Except in the northwest, the village is surrounded by partly wooded hills made of granodiorite and quartz. Kumschütz is on the road from Neupurschwitz to Drehsa .

history

The area was already settled in the early days, south of the village an urn grave field of the older Lusatian culture with bronze jewelry was discovered.

"Cunschicz" was first mentioned in 1474. The citizen "Niclas Kunyschewicz" mentioned in the Bautzen Dingbuch in 1399 probably comes from the village. In 1455 a "Peter Kumschicz" is also listed. Kumschütz was subordinate to the Wurschen manor until 1581 , after which it was bought by the city of Bautzen . Subsequently, Kumschütz always belonged to the Bautzen council villages. In 1810 the village consisted of seven farms. In 1936 Kumschütz was incorporated into Canitz-Christina . At the beginning of the 1970s the place had about 120, mostly Sorbian inhabitants. Kumschütz has been part of Kubschütz since 1973. Kumschütz belongs to the Purschwitz parish .

Population and language

For his statistics on the Sorbian population in Upper Lusatia, Arnošt Muka determined a population of 96 inhabitants in the 1880s; without exception all were Sorbs . The language change to German took place in the village in the first half of the 20th century. Since then, Sorbian has largely disappeared from everyday life.
