geography

The hamlet is located southeast of Bautzen on the left side of the Binnewitz water. In the southeast rise the 384.2 meter high Mehltheuerberg and the 412.4 meter high Schmoritz , south of the 431.9 meter high Thromberg .

history

“Grobtitz” was first mentioned in 1486, when the Bautzen council bought the village for 500 guilders. It is believed that the place name is derived from the Slavic personal name "Grubota". Unlike the surrounding hamlets, Grubditz is seen as an older Slavic foundation. As a result of the Pönfall , the city of Bautzen lost "Gruptitz" again in 1547. In 1603 the Bautzen cathedral monastery acquired the village, from then on Grubditz was always part of the monastery property until the 19th century. Subsequently, Grubditz formed a rural community with the districts Soculahora and Jeßnitz . On New Year's Eve 1882, a village fire destroyed eight farmsteads.

For his statistics on the Sorbian population in Upper Lusatia, Arnošt Muka determined a population of 102 inhabitants in the 1880s; 99 of them were Sorbs and three Germans. The language change to German took place in Grubditz mainly in the first half of the 20th century. In 1956, only 26 percent of the population spoke Sorbian. Since then, the language has largely disappeared from everyday life.

In 1936 Mehltheuer and Binnewitz were incorporated. Since 1973 Grubditz formed a district of Jenkwitz and was incorporated together with this to Kubschütz in 1994, while the districts of Binnewitz and Mehltheuer changed to the community of Großpostwitz .

In the courtyard of homestead no.10 there is a historic well room next to a mountain elm, to which steps lead down. The wooden outside stairs of the homestead are also worth seeing.
