The Mehltheuerberg , Lubjenc in Upper Sorbian , also called Ferdinandshöhe , is the northernmost peak of the Lusatian mountainous region in Saxony . It belongs to the northern mountain range and has a height of 384.2 m .
geography
Neighboring mountains are the Weißiger Berg in the east, the Hromadnik in the southeast, the Schmoritz in the south and the Thromberg in the southwest . The eponymous place Mehltheuer is located at the southwestern foot of the Mehltheuerberg . Other localities in the area are Daranitz , Rieschen , Blösa , Weißig , Pielitz , Binnewitz , Grubditz and Jeßnitz . From the edge of the Mehltheuerberg there is a view of the Upper Lusatian region .
history
Large parts of the originally dense forests were cleared to gain arable land. South of the mountain ran over the 353 m above sea level. NN located Mehltheuerpass the old Cunewalder Marktsteig from Cunewalde to Bautzen . In contrast to most of the mountains in the Lausitzer Bergland, the Mehltheuerberg was previously not subject to any forestry use and remained a farming forest. This led on the one hand to the preservation of the deciduous forest, but on the other hand also to heavy clearing, which extends up to a height of 300 m on the north slope and up to 370 m on the south slope . The term Ferdinandshöhe derives from a previous owner of the free Good Pielitz ago. There is a memorial stone overgrown with ivy on the summit.
flora
The summit and the upper north slope are covered with pedunculate oak- birch forest and heavy hazel vegetation. Mountain elder , blueberry , meadow quail wheat and bracken dominate the undergrowth . In the southern area, rare warmth-loving plant species grow under hornbeams and sessile oaks .
