The Rundling is located southeast of Bautzen on the upper reaches of the Binnewitz water. From east to south, Binnewitz is surrounded by the mountains of the northern mountain range of the Lausitzer Bergland, the 384.2 meter high Mehltheuerberg , the 412.4 meter high Schmoritz (Žmórc) and the 431.9 meter high Thromberg (Lubin) . To the west and north, after Ebendörfel and Grubditz, rise to slight granite heights.

history

"Bunowitz" was first mentioned in 1242 as the property of Lutholdus de Bunowitz. The village is a Slavic foundation in which a manor was built during the colonization period. The owners of the estate changed frequently, and from 1507 "Binnwitz" was part of the Bautzen town council for a while. After the Pönfall in 1547, the Binnewitz estate was withdrawn from the Bautzen council. From 1595 Binnewitz belonged only to the feudal estates. Around 1600 the place came to the parish of Postwitz. In 1777 the Binnewitz estate was administered by the Bautzen council. At that time the place consisted of one man possessed, 13 gardeners and five cottagers, a total of 80 people lived in Binnewitz. The Binnewitz children were also taught in the Winkelschule established in Soculahora around 1800 .

For his statistics on the Sorbian population in Upper Lusatia, Arnošt Muka determined a population of 116 inhabitants in the 1880s; 113 of them were Sorbs and 3 Germans. The language change to German took place in Binnewitz in the first half of the 20th century.

The new mansion was built around 1912. In the 1930s, the Wehrmacht bought all the fields on the property to build a military training area. In 1936 Binnewitz was incorporated into Grubditz . Since 1973 Binnewitz formed a district of Jenkwitz. When Jenkwitz was incorporated into Kubschütz , Binnewitz was outsourced to the community of Großpostwitz in 1994.

Mansion

The mansion was probably built around 1912 for the landowner Bär. After several changes of ownership, it was acquired by Friedrich August Biehle in 1941. During the Second World War resettlers from Hamburg were housed there. After the end of the war, Volkssolidarität took over the over-indebted property of Biehle and used the building as a rest home. Thereafter, from 1951 to 1953, the state school for the collection and purchase of agricultural products of the State of Saxony was housed. It then became the holiday camp of the Margarethenhütte Großdubrau and the Bautzen district hospital. From 1956 it was a forest apprenticeship training center. In 1957 the city of Bautzen intended to transform it into a retirement home, but the project was not implemented due to a lack of funds. Instead, a harvest kindergarten for Binnewitz and Ebendörfel was built on the ground floor in 1964, and a permanent kindergarten from 1968. Four apartments were located on the upper floor. After 1990 the kindergarten was closed and the mansion was sold to the heirs of Friedrich August Biehle. After renovation and the demolition of an extension that was built in the 1920s, the building was sold in 2001.
