geography

The Bauernweiler is located southeast of Bautzen in the Lausitzer Bergland. Klein Kunitz lies at the foot of the 431.9 m high Thromberg and the 412.4 m high Schmoritz in the bottom of the Kunitz water. In the southeast the place is dominated by the 514 m high Hromadnik and south of the 402.2 m high Herrnsberg. The Siebenhügelweg from Bautzen to Cunewalde leads past the eastern edge of the village.

history

The settlement was probably created in the Middle Ages by the Postwitz manor as a forest cut. Their corridor stretches from the valley of the Kunitz water up to the saddle between Schmoritz and Thromberg. “Coynitz parvum” was first mentioned in 1419. “Klain Kunitz”, consisting of two possessed people, was first mentioned in 1547 among the Bautzen council villages. Three years later the place was called "Clein Conicz" and "Kleine Konitz". In 1777 the settlement consisted of four farms, this structure has remained unchanged since then.

For his statistics on the Sorbian population in Upper Lusatia, Arnošt Muka determined a population of 31 inhabitants in the 1880s; without exception all were Sorbs . Since then, Sorbian has largely disappeared from everyday life.

In 1936, Klein Kunitz was incorporated into Großpostwitz.

Two half-timbered houses from the 18th century have been preserved in Klein Kunitz.
