Ivan Slavkov

Ivan Borissow Slawkow ( Bulgarian Иван Борисов Славков ; * May 11, 1940 in Sofia , Bulgaria ; † May 1, 2011 ibid), called Bateto , was a Bulgarian sports official and for many years chaired the Bulgarian Olympic Committee and the Bulgarian Football Association .

Life

Ivan Slavkov's father Boris was a doctor in the Bulgarian capital. After graduating from high school, Iwan studied at the Technical University of Sofia , where he played water polo at the Septemvri University in his free time .

In 1966, his then wife, Svetla Marinowa, died in a plane crash at the age of 25. Ivan Slawkow later married Lyudmila Schiwkowa and became the son-in-law of the communist ruler at the time, Todor Schiwkow .

From 1967 to 1969 Slawkow worked as a journalist in the business section of the newspaper Trud. In 1972 he became director of the Bulgarian National Television. In the late 1970s, Ivan Slawkow was director of the Levski Sofia football club , which at that time was known as DFS Levski-Spartak Sofia .

Slavkov was a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) from 1987 to 2005 , when he was expelled on corruption charges. He is said to have previously agreed to journalists who had posed as lobbyists before him that he would influence the IOC's decision on the location of the 2012 Olympic Games in favor of London.
