history

Soculahora (Sokolca) - with the approach from Bautzen

The first documentary mention comes from the Bautzener Dingbuch from 1366, in which Heinczillus de Valkinberg was mentioned. The village belonged to the Bautzen cathedral chapter. In 1574 the place was called Soklo Horcka and in 1576 as Socolo Horkaw . The village consisted of the Falkenberg estate , around which several cottagers had settled. The Binnewitz water was used to drive a mill, but it did not last long. There was also a village smithy in Soculahora.

An angle school was built in the village around 1800 . The decisive factor in choosing Soculahora as the school location was the fact that the village was centrally located. The lessons were also attended by the children from the surrounding villages of Binnewitz, Grubditz, Mehltheuer, Rieschen, Daranitz, Rabitz and Auritz. In 1851 a new school building was inaugurated, which enabled two-class lessons. At the beginning of the 20th century , the house again proved too small and was replaced by a new building in 1908. In 1847, the Dresden – Görlitz railway was built , which runs past Soculahora to the north.

During the time of National Socialism the place name was Germanized and from 1937 the place was called Falkenberg . In 1949 this renaming was reversed and the name of the village became Sokulahora . Soculahora was never independent and until 1973 belonged to the municipality of Grubditz . With this the incorporation to Jenkwitz took place . The official spelling is now Soculahora again and together with Jenkwitz the village became part of the Kubschütz community on January 1, 1994 .

population

For his statistics on the Sorbian population in Upper Lusatia, Arnošt Muka determined a population of 89 inhabitants in the 1880s, of which 80 were Sorbs (90%) and nine were Germans.

Personalities

  • Michael August Krahl ( Michał Awgust Kral ; 1836–1905) was a teacher and local researcher and also a fruit grower. His writings appeared mainly in the Łužica magazine . Krahl also wrote a Sorbian book on orchards. He also devoted himself to beekeeping and kept silkworms.
