Oberkaina , Upper Sorbian , is a village in Upper Lusatia and has been part of Bautzen since January 1st, 1974 . It is located in the south of the urban area at 210 m above sea level. NN at the federal highway 96 . The village includes the village of Oberkaina and Boblitz ( Bobolcy ) , which was incorporated on July 1, 1934 . Together they have about 850 inhabitants. The residential area east of the B 96 is one of the large home locations in the Bautzen urban area. According to statistics published by the city in December 2007, Oberkaina is the district with the youngest population on average. The average age is 38 years.
The place belongs to the official Sorbian settlement area in East Saxony .
The Boblitz Water, which rises between Boblitz and Ebendörfel and later merges into the Albrechtsbach , flows through the district .
history
The Oberkaina settlement was first mentioned in 1436 as Obir Keyne . The oldest mention of safe Boblitz dates back to 1345 - at that time as a manor Boblicz .
Oberkaina was originally a small Sorbian Gutsweiler on the Boblitzer Wasser. The older part of the village is now on Boblitzer Strasse. The current settlement on Neusalzaer Straße was not built until the second half of the 20th century.
Population and language
For his statistics on the Sorbian population in Upper Lusatia, Arnošt Muka determined a population of 89 in the 1880s, including 71 Sorbs (80%) and 18 Germans. In 1956 Ernst Tschernik counted a Sorbian-speaking population of only 4.7% in the municipality of Oberkaina (with Boblitz), including only one young person.
