geography

The place is about six kilometers west of Bautzen city center. The area is hilly and used for agriculture. Döberkitz itself is located in the valley of a small stream that flows westward towards the Lange Wasser . The two highest peaks in the immediate vicinity are on both sides of the valley - the Hussitenberg (243 m) to the east and the Hennersberg (248 m) to the south-east of the village.

Döberkitz is a small Gutsweiler, which consists of the manor in the northern part and a few houses on Dorfstrasse.

The neighboring towns are Bloaschütz in the east, Göda in the southwest and Jannowitz in the west.

history

The place was first mentioned in 1466 as Debreckwitz . In the 16th century it was named Dobriketz or Debriketz . In 1580 the manor was in the village near the Neukirch manor. From the 17th century at the latest, Döberkitz itself was the seat of a manor, which existed until the 20th century and held the manor.

From the beginning of the traditional history of the place, the administrative border of Upper Lusatia ran not far to the west and south , as the neighboring town of Göda had been under the administration of the Meissen diocese since 1006 . After the secularization of the diocese territories in 1559, the state border between the Electorate of Saxony and the Bohemian Upper Lusatia ran here . The border ceased to exist in 1635 when Upper Lusatia also became part of Saxony.

Döberkitz had been part of Bolbritz since the 19th century . In 1969 the municipality Salzenforst-Bolbritz was formed, which was incorporated into Kleinwelka in 1994 and then to Bautzen in 1999.

population

In 1834 the village had only 30 inhabitants; In 1871 there were already 44. Arnošt Muka counted 55 residents in the 1880s, 50 of them Sorbs (91%). Döberkitz is today on the edge of the Sorbian core settlement area. However, the proportion of Sorbian speakers in town has fallen sharply since then. In 1956 Ernst Tschernik counted a Sorbian-speaking population of only 26.5% in the municipality of Bolbritz, to which Döberkitz now belonged.

Since the Reformation, the population has been predominantly Evangelical-Lutheran and parish to Göda .

Infrastructure

Döberkitz is connected to its neighboring towns by village streets.

A Diakonie home for the disabled has been located in the manor since 1983.
