geography

Headwaters

The Lange Wasser unites three brooks a little north of Diehmen , all of which can be seen as spring brooks.

The first rises west of the Great Picho near Wilthen at about 355 m above sea level. NN and follows the slope to the north in an arc. After about 2.6 km this stream flows through the center of Diehmen and after about 3.25 km the right-hand confluence of the second source stream takes place. Here the water already bears the name Long Water.

The second source stream rises on the western flank of the Great Picho at about 375 m above sea level. NN, after about 1.8 km cross the S 119 near the former Postschänke inn . The union with the first source stream takes place after about 2.15 km directly in front of the road bridge of the S 118. After 950 m of combined flow, the third source stream joins.

This third, the actual source stream, rises in the Arnsdorf district on the north-eastern slopes of the Great Picho at a good 400 m above sea level. NN and already bears the name Long Water there. The stream flows in a north-westerly direction through Arnsdorf (1.1 km). In the village of Arnsdorf, 5 ponds are fed. It also feeds the inlet of the mill pond of the Arnsdorf mill with a branch near the Arnsdorf Park. Afterwards it flows on to Dretschen (2.65 km) and past the "Pappmühle". Its mouth in the two combined streams is about 4.0 km from the source and about 262 m above sea level. NN, near the Diehmener mill. From here on we can speak of the Long Water at the latest. The farthest source from here is that of the first source brook at around 4.25 km. In the following it is used as the zero point for the distance information.

course

The Lange Wasser now flows in a northerly direction through Katschwitz (5.2 km), Brösang - where the Gaußiger Wasser joins (7.35 km), Kleinseitschen and Seitschen (8.6 km and 9.1 km respectively). After 10.9 km it is dammed in a 30 hectare retention basin and after around 12.1 km it flows through Göda . This is followed by Dahren (14.1 km), Pietzschwitz (15.9 km) and finally the confluence with the Schwarzwasser after approx. 16.35 km as a receiving water .
