history

Weissigk was first mentioned in a document in 1547. The settlement was one of the Bautzen council villages. The church originally belonging to the Michaeliskirche in Bautzen was re-parish to Hochkirch in 1866 after the residents had stayed in Hochkirch for a long time. The inhabitants of the small town lived from agriculture.

For his statistics on the Sorbian population in Upper Lusatia, Arnošt Muka determined a population of 42 inhabitants in the 1880s; 39 of them were Sorbs (93%) and 3 were Germans.

At the end of the 19th century, smaller quarries were built west of the village, but granodiorite mining was stopped again in the first half of the 20th century. Weißig consists of only 6 houses. In 1936, Weißig was incorporated into Soritz and then in 1950 to Rachlau. In 1970 the place had about 45 inhabitants, today there are about half. After 1990, Weißig came to Kubschütz with Rachlau.

In 1931 a barrow was found in a grove west of Weißig . The vessels it contains were dated to the Middle Bronze Age.
