geography

After the settlement, Waditz is a round hamlet.

history

It was first mentioned in 1250 when a Heinricus de Wadewitz was mentioned in a document from the Bishop of Meissen. In 1376 a Hentschil de Wadewicz is mentioned in a document from the Bautzen Cathedral Foundation . Later names of the place are Wadewitz (1419), Watitz (1732) and since 1791 Waditz.

During the Hussite Wars, Waditz probably burned down in 1429.

Previously owned by individual landowners, Waditz passed into the possession of the city of Budissin (Bautzen) in 1505. The Pönfall of 1547 left the place back into private ownership. In 1567, however, the place was sold again to Budissin. After the transfer of Upper Lusatia to the Saxon Elector in 1635, six Waditz farmers were finally able to buy the village themselves in 1650.

For his statistics on the Sorbian population in Upper Lusatia, Arnošt Muka determined a population of 130 inhabitants in the 1880s; 116 of them were Sorbs (89%) and 14 Germans. Since then, the use of the Sorbian language in everyday life has decreased significantly.
