Emerson Whithorne

Emerson Whithorne (born September 6, 1884 in Cleveland , Ohio , † March 25, 1958 in Lyme , Connecticut ) was an American pianist and composer.

Whithorne began performing as a pianist at the age of fifteen. He was then a student of Theodor Leschetizky and Robert Fuchs in Vienna and from 1905 to 1907 of Artur Schnabel in Berlin . He lived as a teacher and music critic in London until 1915 , after which he worked as the editor of an art magazine in St. Louis until 1920 and then lived as a freelance composer in New York .

He composed two symphonies and five symphonic poems , the orchestral pieces Der Regen , Der Aeroplan and New York bei Nacht , a piano and a violin concerto, chamber music works, songs , ballets and drama music.
