Howard Taylor Ricketts

The Howard Taylor Ricketts Award is a scientific award given annually by the University of Chicago .

Foundation purpose

In 1912 the widow of pathologist Howard Taylor Ricketts (1871-1910), Myra Tubbs Ricketts, donated US $ 5,000 to the University of Chicago. The foundation was bound to award an annual prize named after her husband. While initially the students of the university were awarded with the best results in pathology and microbiology , in the mid-1940s there was a move to award scientists outside the University of Chicago in "recognition of outstanding achievements in the field of medical sciences".
