Well room and pond with stone surround Bergstrasse (parcel 13)
(map)
1866; probably older, 18th century Well room with entrance hood made of strong granite masonry, locked with a simple wooden slat door and wooden latch, scientific and documentary evidence of earlier rural life, rarity. Well room located in the middle of the village, flanked by oak and chestnut at the northern foot of the flour dump. Entrance 160 cm high, 115 cm wide, eleven steps deep, water is up to the upper step and then drains into a small ditch below the door. Lower foot of the room driven into standing rock. Walls built with rubble stones (part of the scoop pit carved into standing granite, the room itself lined with granite picking stones). Three iron fittings. The water flow from a spring south of the room is very strong. At a height of around 4 m, water seeps through the entire width of the well (around 2 m) through the brick wall. Source still very productive today. In the 19th and 20th centuries, the Brunnenstube was not only used as a water reservoir, but also to cool milk and butter, until the farmers and cottagers were able to bring these products to the market in Bautzen or later to the dairy. Dating in the stone probably denotes renewal. To the north-west of the room there is a small pond with a preserved stone border, which is currently heavily overgrown.
