Detailed memorial texts

  1. ^ Dehio - Handbook of German Art Monuments / Saxony Volume 1:

Catholic Parish Church of St. Martin. The most architecturally sophisticated baroque church in Upper Lusatia. A hall church located on a hill east of the village with an elongated oval floor plan with a west tower and sacristy in the east. Built in 1740–43 under the patronage of the Abbess of the Marienstern Monastery (Panschwitz-Kuckau) Cordula Sommer (multiple coat of arms on the building and on the altar). In 1830 the once very high tower crown was replaced by today's stone lantern. Restorations 1907, 1970–75 (interior), 1985–92 (facades). The exterior of the plastered building with a hipped gable roof and ridge turret in the east is structured by buttress-like, coupled pilasters and a surrounding, strongly cranked cornice. The cornice connects the square tower with the nave to form a single structure. The lower, larger windows with curved roofs over drilled granite walls, the upper ones with flat segmental arches. Portals on the tower and on the south side with the coat of arms of the Cordula Sommer. The tower with broken corners and corner pilasters or pilaster strips on the upper floor. The sacristy on a square floor plan with broken corners and a hipped gable roof. The exterior is matched by the taut structure of the walls inside with coupled pilasters of the Ionic order, a circumferential entablature, above it barrel vaults structured by belts, and domes on the front sides. Stitch caps open the vault to the upper windows. The spacious wooden organ gallery in the west on profiled columns, the curved parapet on strong profiled balusters. The altar space is raised by two curved steps. Altar from 1744, probably from the workshop of Franz Xaver Karl Palko from Prague. Stately wooden structure with Corinthian columns. The altarpiece, Assumption of Mary, in an ornamentally moving frame, above it a representation of St. Martin. The top above the entablature, which extends into the vault, with putti, large sun and Marian monogram. At the bottom side the figures of hll. Katharina and Margareta. Of the side altars only the painting of St. Martin received, from Princess Mathilde, Duchess of Saxony, 1899. The octagonal pulpit, wood, with high reliefs of the evangelists on the basket, from the time of origin. Attractive baptism, wood, standing on three consoles, baptism of Christ on the lid, white with gilding and marbling, also from 1744. Jehmlich organ, around 1930, case probably 1833–35.
