Evangelical town church and churchyard Großröhrsdorf (entity) | Lichtenberger Strasse (map) |
18./19. Century; 1855 (peace oak) | Consolidation of the Evangelical town church and Großröhrsdorf cemetery with the following individual monuments: Church, six tombs, 14 tombs, crypt house, all wrought-iron lattice enclosures in the churchyard, cemetery of honor for the fallen of World War I, memorial for the victims of World War II, memorial tree and enclosure wall of the churchyard with a three-dimensional cemetery Entrance gates and stairs (see list of individual monuments - Obj. 09289668, same address) as well as horticultural design of the memorial and the cemetery (garden monument); In terms of building history, local history as well as landscape design and urban planning of importance. The oldest part of the cemetery complex is the churchyard (previous church built around 1300, demolished) in the south of the baroque church (built in 1736). The regularly laid out cemetery in the north of the church, probably created with the construction of the baroque church, was expanded in 1865 to the east and north by a strip. It is a traditional cemetery complex with an avenue cross and 4 headquarters as well as crypts with fencing bars on the enclosure wall. The cemetery of honor (1919/1920) and the Großmann grave site (1907) are two essential parts of the cemetery with artistic and sculptural value. Visual connections between the cemetery, town and landscape result from the elevated position, which emphasizes the cemetery complex in terms of landscape and urban planning. Planned layout with two intersecting linden avenues including a central roundabout, grave sites partly with regular hedge plantings, three (of originally four) copper beeches integrated into the layout of the cemetery of honor for the fallen of the First World War, furthermore two oaks at the cemetery gate - one of them the Großröhrsdorf cemetery oak - and further woodland plantings in the churchyard and the cemetery. The appearance of the cemetery was shaped by a total of 54 grave sites with wrought iron lattice enclosures. |

The "outer cemetery Großröhrsdorf" was laid out around 1900 on a rectangular area. The access road with linden avenue leads straight from east to west to the cemetery gate. From the gate, the axis of the path continues with a cut linden tree avenue to a horseshoe-shaped square surrounded by cut linden trees, on which the chapel stands. Starting from Kapellenplatz, another axis with a linden avenue extends, which opens up the southern and northern cemetery area. The outer cemetery, which was laid out relatively late, has on the one hand in its basic structure essential features of the traditional, classic cemetery structure. On the other hand, the horseshoe-shaped Kapellenplatz and in particular the white poplars, black pines, white pine, blue spruce and weeping beech are typical design elements for the reform period around 1900. The cemetery has its special charm and artistic value in the interplay of the traditional, clear cemetery structure and these elements that were modern around 1900. |

Around 1910 | Plastered building in the reform style of the time around 1910, of building history, garden history and urban planning importance, two-storey, with a diverse roof landscape, ornamental window frames, plaster structure, rustic plinth, shutters, influenced by the Werkbund.
Description and justification of the garden monument (Ragnhild Kober-Carrière, 2014): M. & E. Völkel Baugeschäft (Max and Ewald Völkel) owned the neighboring villas at Radeberger Straße 53 and Praßerstraße 2. The small villa garden at Praßerstraße 2 has an interesting soil model that is in connection with the neighboring property. On a small hill in the north of the villa there is a group of trees, which is characterized by two black pines. A beech tree in the southeast of the villa forms the counterweight to this. To the west of the aforementioned hill, the terrain descends towards the neighboring garden. At the two corners of the property, in the east and south, there are two more elevated places, from which one had a beautiful view due to the former peripheral location. The south square is overshadowed by a weeping ash tree. Ornamental shrubs divide the garden into smaller garden areas. The granite stone paving of the driveway was renovated and supplemented. The access route kept its original mosaic paving. Remnants of the enclosure - concrete base and pillars - have been preserved. In connection with the garden of the neighboring villa, the relief of the ground and woody stock testify to a functional and creative intention of importance in the history of the garden. The villa garden laid out with the construction of the villa has an old, valuable woody stock which, due to the location of the property (corner property), has a special urban significance. |

Villa, villa garden with seating and gate entrance | Radeberger Strasse 53 (map) |
Around 1910 | Plastered building in the reform style of the time around 1910, of importance in terms of building history, garden history and site development history, two-storey, diverse roof landscape with roof turrets, differentiated material selection, corresponds to Prasserstraße 2, influenced by the Werkbund. Parts of the garden monument: driveway, front garden and curiosity, villa garden with seating area, kitchen garden.
Description and justification of the garden monument (Ragnhild Kober-Carrière, 2014): M. & E. Völkel Baugeschäft (Max and Ewald Völkel) owned the neighboring villas at Radeberger Strasse 53 and Praßerstrasse 2. The garden laid out when the villa was built shows its basic layout with driveway, front garden and small villa garden as well as kitchen garden, the essential features of an urban house and villa garden. The old system of paths can be assumed to be in the ground. Particularly noteworthy is the handling of the earth, which was cleverly used to model the ground for two seats (seat in the back of the garden and curiosity). The artistic use of quarry stones to surround the rear seat (known as the “grotto”) is particularly important. The property is largely characterized by the largely preserved woody stock (rhododendron, lilac, hawthorn, blue spruce, yew, copper beech, oak, ash, birch). The fence has been preserved with a fence base and pillars, a wall on the street corner, and gate and door pillars. The driveway and the access path to the house entrance are paved with granite stone paving. The largely preserved small urban house and villa garden has garden historical value. Due to its exposed corner location, the property with the remains of the enclosure and its wooded area has urban significance. |

The property is essentially characterized by the woody stock (ash, walnut, false cypress, American red oak, hornbeam, hazel tree, larch, linden, etc.). The fence has been preserved with a fence base and pillars, a wall on the street corner, and gate and door pillars. The group of trees in the east of the villa that characterizes the street (rhododendron, birch, blue spruce, black pine, oak, magnolia, yew) is to be emphasized. A pigeon house is in the southeast of the villa. ^ Dehio manual of German art monuments, Saxony, Volume 1, administrative district Dresden:
Evangelical parish church; One of the most beautiful baroque church buildings in Upper Lusatia; Stately hall church with retracted choir and 3/8 end, 1731–36, restoration 1886–88, 1933–36, 1903 addition of a stair tower in the northeast corner of the mansion box.
Plastered quarry stone building, arched window with cranked roof cornice. Two-storey square west tower with eight-sided bell storey, hood and lantern. Inside, a flat plaster ceiling decorated with geometric stucco ornaments over a large throat and cornice. Two-storey wooden galleries on the long sides and convex organ gallery. On the north side of the choir, a box with three windows. Above that is a second box that protrudes a little; on the south side of the choir, the sacristy. Uniform furnishings from the time it was built: a wooden altar dominating the room, 1745: two Corinthian pilasters placed over a corner with a column in front flank the altar niche with a crucifix, above a cartouche with a flaming heart. A laterally swinging attachment with a ray gloriole and urns above the pillars crowns the structure. Between the altar and the choir wall there is a passage with a curved arch, which is decorated with rococo ornament. Pentagonal wooden pulpit, 1736, images of the evangelists and the blessing Christ on the pulpit. The pulpit rests on a mighty volute. Wooden baptism on four volute-like legs decorated with acanthus, 1745. Notable carved figure from the winged altar of the previous building, Mary with child, unmounted, mid-15th century. Large, splendid sandstone epitaph by Christiane Sophie Nicolai, née Troppanneger († 1756), on the south side of the choir wall: a reclining figure holds an oval relief depicting the deceased, flanked by Pietas and Fides. Finally, a glory and a putto reaching down a wreath. Full-length portraits of Martin Luther and Philipp Melanchthon, oil on canvas, 1614. Organ prospectus by Pfützner & Mayer 1760/61, the work of Schuster, 1904, modified by Eule, 1935/36. -

↑ Description and justification of the garden monument Lehngut Radeberger Straße 18a (Ragnhild Kober-Carrière, 2014):
The Lehngut Großröhrsdorf is located in the immediate vicinity of the church with churchyard and the so-called "inner cemetery". It is accessed from both Radeberger and Bahnhofstrasse. Only on Radeberger Straße are the remains of a gate system (pillars made of plastered masonry with a ball attachment). The enclosure on Radeberger Straße consists of retaining walls (granite masonry with sandstone cover plates and remnants of a metal railing attached). The retaining wall is drawn in an arch directly at the driveway and ends with an attached wall towards the gate pillar. Here is a gate tree (horse chestnut) and a so-called curiosity. The courtyard has remains of a courtyard fortification (granite stone paving). It is characterized by a horse chestnut and two ash trees. In the western area of the feudal property, the area is terraced. Few fruit trees indicate a kitchen garden. An ice cellar located here is accessed from Lichtenberger Straße. At the northern border of the property there is a 40 m long enclosure wall made of quarry stone. There is a small hill with a pair of linden trees on the property. Another linden tree is on the eastern border. There is a water trough in the south of building 18c. The unobstructed garden areas are of importance in terms of urban planning and local design due to their exposed location and the proximity to the church and cemetery. -
↑ The JG Schöne company is one of the oldest families of tape makers in Großröhrsdorf. The Schöne family has been based in Großröhrsdorf since the 16th century, and has been a bandmaker since 1727. On the company premises, two production buildings, an administration building and a social building are mainly existing structures, which form a vivid ensemble of historical production, administration and social buildings in G. Here is the location of the oldest ribbon weaving company in Großröhrsdorf and in Rödertal.
Front building (possibly former administration) oldest surviving company building in Großröhrsdorf, built in 1837, with completely preserved original wooden doors inside, banisters, handrails, entire floor plan.
Rear building of one of the oldest preserved factory buildings in town, built after 1873, important structural evidence for the transition from manufacturing to industrial mass production. Social building with a former dining room with wooden folding doors, which divided the hall into three segments, but also used as a large hall, in the rearmost part of the hall the mural “Bandmacherstube Anno 1727”, original ceiling design and in the front part of the hall preserved, on the upper floor the factory kitchen, some with historical ones technical devices (boiler, elevator).
To the right of the entrance gate: the front building, a four-story factory building with web rooms from the time of construction and unchanged floor plan, marks the end of industrialization in the town, built by Max and Eduin Völkel, who as architects and builders played a key role in shaping the townscape.
The rear of the two buildings to the right of the gate was also designed and executed as an independent building by M. and E. Völkel, with the influence of reform architecture. Collapse of the east facade in 1947, widening of the structure during reconstruction in 1951 and loss of the stair tower hood during renovations to the elevator in the 1970s (?) Impaired overall effect of the building.
About the equipment: According to the restorer Uwe Rähmer, the scope and state of preservation of the historical ribbon looms are unique in the authentic environment, sample collection and company archive as a source of the history of ribbon weaving, almost unchanged "celebration room" in the middle building of the buildings to the left of the entrance (also by M. u. E. Völkel) from 1940 as structural evidence of labor and social history.
