Railway bridge over the Spree (at kilometer 1,732)
(map)
July 20 - December 20, 1889 Großpostwitz – Löbau railway line , four pillars made of sandstone with a steel truss bridge, of significance in terms of railway history, architectural history and technology history. After the weaving community of Cunewalde turned to the Saxon government in 1865 to connect to the railway network, the concession for a standard-gauge secondary railway from Großpostwitz to Obercunewalde was not granted until 1887. In 1890 the connection went into operation. After an interruption due to inflation, it was not until 1928 that the extension of the line to Löbau, which had been planned for a long time and started in 1919, took place. In the lowest section of the 19.4 kilometer long connection, the Spreeaue had to be overcome at the Bederwitz stop, for which the engineers of the Royal Saxon State Railroad built a 50 meter long bridge with an open upper track at a height of nine meters on two sandstone pillars. The middle, 22.50 meter wide bridge field was spanned with a lattice framework construction. Sheet metal girders with a span of more than ten meters are connected on both sides. The bridge with its combined construction is of local and railway historical significance, above all it is an extraordinary monument of civil engineering. 09301856

Detailed memorial texts

  1. Deletion in 2010: Renovation has changed the property significantly. Lined block room, further overhang of the massive street-side gable wall.

Deletion reversed on February 22nd, 2011 according to the following text:

"After a renewed property inspection (also inside) by A. Matthes (District Office Bautzen) it was found that the surrounding building had received considerably more of the original structure as part of the renovation than would be assumed on the outside inspection was.
    • Historic ground floor masonry in the middle and southern area of the house with the restored opening of the former oven and an original cellar area in the south-western part of the house with Prussian cap vaults
    • Surrounding construction consisting of a stand, lugs and tensioning bolt, exposed by the cladding installed shortly after 1900, the surface underneath with late baroque profiles had already been hacked and could no longer be shown visibly
    • Individual components mostly repaired, reinstalled and re-boarded based on the findings
    • Removal of the logs (remnants of the log room) in 2007 with DSG, as replacement masonry with horizontal planking
    • The half-timbered structure on the upper floor (end of the 18th century), remodeled in 1900 with a jamb, also preserved, as well as the roof construction including the ceiling filling and flooring. In
summary, this half-timbered house from the construction period around 1780 shows the eventful building history. Necessary modifications due to a damaging fire from 1900 formed the occasion for renovation and adaptation, as contemporary use, e.g. B. by building a jamb, the ceiling height on the upper floor changed (compare historical photo from 1909, which shows how board-lined gable looks remarkably narrow and windows are disproportionate due to the mentioned building measure). Further interventions in the massive part from 1900, due to the hillside no vaulted cellar available, subsequent equipment of this part of the building with a small storage room with Prussian caps. Construction measures changed the historical appearance of the house, but at the same time contributed to the preservation and did not reduce the historical building fabric so significantly that it can no longer be justified as a monument.
