history

Kleinpostwitz was first mentioned in 1498 under the name Bosselwitz and was independent until 1934 when it was incorporated into Kirschau . The village is traditionally agricultural, but has not had an independent farm since the 1960s. Only sideline forestry is still to be found.

The railway line from Bautzen to Wilthen has crossed the town since 1877 . In order for the farmers to be able to reach the fields, which are now mostly north of the railway line, four bridges were built at short intervals, which can still be used today. Thus the approximately 4 km long section from Rodewitz to Wilthen has eleven bridges, but no level crossing. The Butterwasser stream running through the village often leads to floods, the heaviest of which were in 1924, 1970 and 2010.

In 1884 Arnošt Muka had 78 inhabitants in the village; 64 of them were Sorbs (82%). At that time, Kleinpostwitz was the southernmost place in the Sorbian core language area. Meanwhile the Sorbian has disappeared from the everyday life of the place.

The close proximity to the industrial town of Kirschau, which was already prosperous at the end of the 19th century, ensured that Kleinpostwitz was connected to the electricity network in 1909 and to the public water network in 1938; in 1961 this was extended to almost the entire village. The village has been connected to the sewerage network since 1995, and by 2014 all buildings (except for one farm north of the railway line) were connected.

In 1902, with the purchase of a Flader manual pressure sprayer, the foundation stone was laid for a compulsory fire brigade , which provided service for all male residents between the ages of 18 and 55. In 2000, since 1934 the volunteer fire department Kirschau prepared and a command post was volunteer fire department dissolved. The fire brigade tradition, however, continues with the Kleinpostwitz hand-operated syringe team founded in 2001, the basis of which is the hand-operated syringe acquired in 1902.
