Rodewitz / Spree ( Sorbian ) is a district of the town of Schirgiswalde-Kirschau with 450 inhabitants and is located about 8 km south of Bautzen , between Großpostwitz and Kirschau , directly at the foot of the Mönchswalder Mountain (447 m).

Rodewitz is on the left side of the Spree , opposite the confluence of the Cunewald Water in the Oberlausitzer Bergland . South of the village the butter water flows into the Spree. Rodewitz is dominated by the Mönchswalder Berg (447 m).
There are two car dealerships in town, the volunteer fire brigade and a darts club. The primary school was closed and there is still a kindergarten . Instead of the former “Erbgericht” restaurant with a hall, a new village community center was built in 2016, where clubs work.
There used to be two train stations here ( Rodewitz on the Bautzen – Bad Schandau railway and Bederwitz on the Großpostwitz – Löbau railway ), but both were closed. Rodewitz can be easily reached by bus.
The musician and band leader Adolf Kiertscher had one of his rehearsal rooms in Rodewitz.

The name Rodewitz probably comes from the Sorbian name Rozwodecy. Rozwod means something like "separation" or "separation" in Sorbian. This term probably refers to the old divisions of the Spree , but could also be traced back to the separation of the Spreetal, Butterwasser Valley and the Cunewalder water valley .
A knight's seat in Rodewitz was first mentioned in documents around 1483 . Heinrich von Seidlitz, a soldier in the Swedish army, spent his old age on his estate in Rodewitz.
In the 18th century the Rodewitz estate belonged to the majorate of the Count von Schall-Riaucour on Gaussig . The foundation walls of the house at Hauptstraße 19 probably once belonged to this manor.
In 1879 the first school was built in Rodewitz. Around 1890 Rodewitz was connected to the Großpostwitz – Löbau railway line. For his statistics on the Sorbian population in Upper Lusatia, Arnošt Muka determined a population of 386 inhabitants in the 1880s; 281 of them were Sorbs (73%) and 105 Germans. Rodewitz was next to Kleinpostwitz the southernmost place of the predominantly Sorbian-populated area and had its own dialect of Sorbian, which is now extinct.
