Sonnenberg ( Upper Sorbian Słónčna Hora or Zombark ) is a district of the town of Schirgiswalde-Kirschau in the Saxon district of Bautzen .
geography
Sonnenberg is located southeast of Bautzen in the Lausitzer Bergland. The settlement is located on the southeast slope of the 384 m high Sonnenberg and 447.4 m high Mönchswalder Berg in a left side valley of the butterwater .
history
Sonnenberg was built at the end of the 18th century as an extension of the Rodewitz estate . The first of the houses was probably the "Sonnenschenke", for which Gottlieb Zschecke was allocated building land in 1768 by the Crostau lordship . Finally, around 1787, a small group of houses grew along the valley gully as a settlement for farm workers from the Rodewitz estate. After the liquidation of the manor, after 1846 some small farms were established in Sonnenberg. In the second half of the 20th century, several country houses were built in the forest. In 1955, the Rodewitz volunteer fire brigade created a fire fighting pond in Sonnenberg .
Sonnenberg was never independent. Until January 1, 1999 it was part of the Rodewitz / Spree community and was then incorporated into Kirschau together with it . Since January 1, 2011, Sonnenberg has belonged to the city of Schirgiswalde-Kirschau .
There is a lookout point on the Sonnenberg. There is also a hiking park and barbecue area in the village.
