Schirgiswalde-Kirschau ( Upper Sorbian Šěrachow-Korzym ) is a small town in the center of the Upper Lusatian highlands and belongs to the Saxon district of Bautzen .

    • Schirgiswalde

history

The municipality was created on January 1, 2011 through the voluntary merger of the city of Schirgiswalde and the communities of Kirschau and Crostau . The three communities were already connected in the administrative community Schirgiswalde , which was dissolved at the same time. The seat of the city administration is in Kirschau.

Population development

In the census of May 9, 2011, there were 6,761 people in the city's 1959 residential buildings. These are spread over the districts of Schirgiswalde (2735), Kirschau (1703), Crostau (628), Callenberg (532), Rodewitz / Spree (431), Wurbis (153), Halbendorf / Gebirge (128), Carlsberg (126), Bederwitz (112), Neuschirgiswalde (109), Kleinpostwitz (59) and Sonnenberg (45). The average age was 46.9 years.

On March 27, 2011, the previous mayor of Kirschau, Sven Gabriel (FDP), who had been the administrator of the city since the beginning of the year, was elected as the new mayor. He was re-elected on March 4, 2018.

Town twinning

Denkingen and Niederstetten in Baden-Württemberg and Sundern (Sauerland) in North Rhine-Westphalia are twin towns of Schirgiswalde-Kirschau.

traffic

The Schirgiswalde-Kirschau stop , which had this name even before the municipal merger, is located on the Oberoderwitz – Wilthen railway line and is served by regional trains on the Dresden - Zittau line every two hours.
