Community structure

history
The relatively flat terrain between the Primtal and the steep drop of the Swabian Alb was inhabited early on. Romans and Alemanni settled here, as archaeological finds and graves show.
Denkingen was first mentioned in a document on October 10, 818 in a deed of donation from a certain Theotmar of land in the village of Thanchinga to his and his wife's salvation to the St. Gallen monastery . Various ecclesiastical and secular rulers owned the place. In 1381 the village came to Front Austria and stayed there until it became part of Württemberg in 1805 .
During the Thirty Years War , soldiers almost completely burned the place down, where the hamlets of Hinterhausen and Rietheim were lost. In 1743, long disputes between the citizens and Pastor Stockhl lead to riots in the community, from where the fool type Pfarrbachweib comes from.
In the Kingdom of Württemberg the place was assigned to the Oberamt Spaichingen . In 1889 the place was connected to the water supply network. Almost the entire Hintere Gasse was destroyed by a fire in the late summer of 1892 . From 1928 to September 23, 1968, Denkingen was closed to the railway network by the Heubergbahn .
During the regional reform in 1938, the place became part of the Tuttlingen district . During the Second World War , Denkingen was spared war damage, but was captured by French troops on April 21, 1945. With the influx of expellees and refugees, the Protestant population grew by 25 percent after 1948. In 1861 the place had only two Protestant residents. In 1972 Denkingen formed an administrative community with Spaichingen and the surrounding communities . In the days of June 23 and 24, 1975, the place had to struggle with severe flood damage.
