The Klippeneck is  980  m above sea level. NHN high mountain on the edge of the Swabian Alb in the Tuttlingen district in Baden-Württemberg .

geography

The Klippeneck lies between the Hummelsberg ( 1002  m above sea level ) and the Hüttenbühl ( 985  m above sea level ) - so it is only a slightly elevated point on the Albtrauf . It is located on the Heuberg , a plateau in the Swabian Alb between Balingen and Tuttlingen , in the Denkingen district . In the west, the Heuberg breaks steeply for kilometers to the Baar plateau .

The Klippeneck glider airfield is located on the Klippeneck , Germany's highest glider airfield . On the edge of the airfield there is a restaurant and the Klippeneck youth and training center of the Baden-Württemberg Aviation Association.

Weather station

Until December 1999 there was a manned weather station of the German Meteorological Service on the Klippeneck, which was replaced by an automated weather station on January 1, 2000 . In 1959, the German record number of hours of sunshine (2329 hours per year) was measured here, but this is of limited importance as only values ​​over a period of 30 years are actually statistically relevant.

Nature reserve

The area is located in the Hohe Schwabenalb natural area . By ordinance of the Freiburg Regional Council of April 22, 1996, a naturally forest-free special location on the western edge of the Albtraufs was designated as a nature reserve. It has a total area of ​​9.2 hectares, is called Klippeneck and is listed under NSG number 3.220. The CDDA code is 164144 and the IUCN category is IV.
