The Irrendorfer Hardt is a nature reserve designated by ordinance on February 14, 1938 by the then Württemberg Minister of Culture in the area of the municipality of Irndorf in the Tuttlingen district .
location
The Irrendorfer Hardt nature reserve is located north of Irndorf, directly on the boundary with Nusplingen . It is located in the Hohe Schwabenalb natural area .
It is part of the FFH area Großer Heuberg and Donautal and the bird sanctuary in the Southwest Alb and Upper Danube Valley . The Großer Heuberg nature reserve borders in the north .
Landscape character
The area is an example of a typical wooden meadow in the Swabian Alb. This is characterized by species-rich unmowers ( poor meadows that are only mowed once a year) with isolated trees or groups of trees. This park-like landscape presumably goes back to old forest pastures, which were still cultivated as hay meadows with occasional wood use after the pasture management was abandoned. This is also indicated by the name Hardt , which was often used for forest pasture areas. The soils in the area are partly strongly acidified, resulting in acid soil on vinous areas neglected grassland ( Nardus grasslands ) have developed. The remaining areas are characterized by mountain meadows and limestone grasslands.
As a high hollow, the area is a cold air depression, which climatically clearly sets itself apart from the surrounding Alb plateau. So frost or even frost can still form here in summer . In the appraisal of the protected area from 1937 it is even stated that there is no month in the year in which there is no frost.
There are also several sinkholes in the area . The area is almost completely surrounded by forest dominated by spruce.
history
The area was placed under nature protection in 1938 by an ordinance signed by the then Württemberg Minister of Culture, Christian Mergenthaler . Since the municipality of Irndorf was still called "Irrendorf" before it was renamed in 1972, the area still bears the official name "Irrendorfer Hardt", whereby the colloquial term is mostly "Irndorfer Hardt".
Flora and fauna
The area has a very high-quality floral design. Among other things, arnica ( Arnica montana ), the pale willow ( Salix starkeana ), the bog clover ( Trifolium spadiceum ), the nodular knotweed ( Persicaria vivipara ), the yellow gentian ( Gentiana lutea ), the round-leaved wintergreen ( Pyrola rotundifolia ) and the dyer's sip ( Serratula tinctoria ).
