The Grasmutter nature reserve is a nature reserve on the territory of the municipality of Dürbheim, which was designated by the Freiburg Regional Council by ordinance of June 12, 1995 .

location

The Grasmutter nature reserve is located on the Dürbheimer Berg between the hamlets of Rußberg and Risiberg , about 1.5 kilometers southeast of Dürbheim in the Hohe Schwabenalb natural area . Geologically it lies in the layers of the Upper Jurassic .

Protection purpose

According to the Protected Area Ordinance, the protection purpose is "the preservation of the juniper heather" mother of grass "as a habitat for warmth and drought-loving flora and fauna with a multitude of rare and protected species" and "a landscape of special character and beauty that has been shaped by humans through centuries of sheep grazing."

Landscape character

The Grasmutter area is a juniper heather with individual hud trees. It is surrounded by mixed coniferous forest and mowed economic grassland.

Flora and fauna

The notable plant species in the area include the real moon rue , the silver thistle , the winged gorse , the German gentian and the two-leaved forest hyacinth .

A total of 15 breeding bird species, including tree pipit , bloodline fly and golden hammer, have been recorded in the area.

In the area, both native hay horse species ( chirping shrimp and large hay horse ) occur side by side, which is rather unusual for the natural area. there is also an occurrence of the meadow grasshopper , which is actually more likely to be found in damp habitats.

Contiguous protected areas

The Grasmutter nature reserve is part of the FFH area Großer Heuberg and Donautal as well as the bird sanctuary Südwestalb and Oberes Donautal . the neighboring open land areas are protected as the Dürbheimer Berg landscape protection area.
