The Höwenegg area is a nature reserve (NSG number 3.128) in the municipality of Immendingen in the Baden-Württemberg district of Tuttlingen in Germany, which was designated by the Freiburg Regional Council by ordinance of June 24, 1983 .

location

The approximately 21 hectare “Höwenegg” nature reserve is part of the “ Hegaualbnatural area . It is located about 2.7 kilometers south of the center of Immendingen at an altitude of about 774 to 798  m above sea level. NHN and extends around the eponymous Höwenegg , the northernmost of the Hegau volcanoes, with the striking crater lake and the ruins of Immendingen Castle .

Protection purpose

The main protection purpose is "the preservation of the Höwenegg volcanic complex as a geological document with unique insights into volcanic genesis and as a habitat for rare animals and plants".

The protected area, including the former quarry and the adjacent forests, is a richly structured biotope , habitat for some rare plant and animal species .
