About this picture

Irndorf is a municipality in the Tuttlingen district in Baden-Württemberg . Apart from the village of Irndorf, no other localities belong to the municipality of Irndorf.

geography

Geographical location

The state-approved resort town of Irndorf is located on the Großer Heuberg , a plateau in the Swabian Alb not far from the steep slope to the Danube Valley in the Upper Danube Nature Park . The subsoil is heavily karstified in places , with numerous depressions and sinkholes .

In the north of the Irndorf location there is an important nature reserve, the Irrendorfer Hardt , with a total area of 103 hectares. The Irndorfer Hardt at a height of around 900 meters is shaped like a trough. It lacks a drain, which often creates a cold lake in it. Many rare plants that immigrated during the Ice Age have settled in it, which are otherwise only found in subalpine areas (around 1000 meters higher in the mountains). The nature reserve was designated as early as 1938 by the then Tuttlingen District Office and has a unique biodiversity to this day.

Neighboring communities

The community borders in the north on Nusplingen in the Zollernalbkreis , in the east on Schwenningen and in the south on Beuron , both in the district of Sigmaringen and in the west on Bärenthal .

history

Irndorf

Irndorf was founded in 1094 by a nobleman from the Beuron monastery named Ullrich von Urendorf. Centuries later, Urendorf was renamed in Ürendorf by the Allerheiligen monastery in Schaffhausen . Of the various spiritual and secular lords who ruled the village until it was mediatized at the beginning of the 19th century, the Counts of Zollern and the Lords of Enzberg stand out. During the coalition wars, French troops burned the village in 1796. It was set on fire again three years later. Spaltfels Castle , which can no longer be found today, was located in the area .

In 1805 the village fell to Württemberg and was assigned to the Oberamt Tuttlingen . In 1938 Irrendorf came to the Tuttlingen district .

For centuries the community was called Irrendorf until it was renamed Irndorf on April 19, 1972 . The renaming was made on the basis of a document that was found during restoration work in the old cemetery church.

politics

Administrative association

The community is a member of the community administration association Donau-Heuberg , based in Fridingen an der Donau .

mayor

In 2003 Norbert Zerr, who stood against the then incumbent Georg Zindeler, was elected mayor of Irndorf. The former detective had previously dared two unsuccessful attempts to become mayor in Hausen ob Verena (Tuttlingen district) and Villingendorf ( Rottweil district ). After just two years in office in Irndorf, he applied for the mayoral election in Schömberg ( Zollernalbkreis ), but was defeated there on April 10, 2005 by Karl-Josef Sprenger. Later, after almost seven years in office, he applied in Sonnenbühl ( Reutlingen district ), but lost again there (on October 11, 2009 against Uwe Morgenstern). He ran for re-election on January 16, 2011. The opposing candidate was CDU member Rudolf Fluck, who had already applied for the mayoral election in Gütenbach ( Schwarzwald-Baar district ). Rudolf Fluck was elected mayor in the first ballot with a high turnout of 88.9 percent. He took up the post in April 2011. He was elected mayor of Mönchweiler in 2016 . Before the mayor's position was advertised, the municipal council decided that only an honorary mayor should be sought. In the subsequent election in 2016, the only applicant Jürgen Frank was chosen on July 10, 2016 with 91.7 percent of the vote. The turnout was 54.2 percent.

Regular events

The Irndorfer mowing competition has been organized annually since 1978 for amateurs, professionals and celebrities, which has made Irndorf known far beyond the region's borders with participants from France, Switzerland, Austria and Spain. Sports

The municipalities of Bärenthal , Irndorf, Nusplingen and Schwenningen created a joint network of trails for winter sports enthusiasts in 2011 . After the connection of the newly created cross-country ski run on Gnadenweiler to the Irndorfer cross-country ski trail network was created, a large area for cross-country skiing was created through the merger with the existing Nusplinger and Schwenninger cross-country ski runs through the Irndorfer Hardt .
