geography

Geographical location

Renquishausen is located in the Upper Danube Nature Park on the Großer Heuberg , a plateau in the Swabian Alb , embedded between the Lippach Valley in the west and the Bäratal in the east, both of which are side valleys of the Danube Valley .

Neighboring communities

The community borders in the north on Königsheim , in the east on Bärenthal , in the south on Kolbingen and in the west on Mahlstetten . There is also a short joint boundary with Böttingen .

Historical geography

In the municipality, west of Renquishausen, is the abandoned village of Hagen, which is indicated by a field name . The Kesselhaldenhof was located on the northern boundary against the Bärental. In winter, the owners smolder wood to make charcoal. The only remote farm in the municipality was given up around 1880.

history

In 1092 Renquishausen was first mentioned in a deed of donation from the Sankt Georgen monastery in the Black Forest . In this document it says: A man named Harpendet gave God and St. Georgen all his property that he owned in “Rentwigeshusen”, as well as the sixth part of the chapel in the same place.

The place name is made up of the personal name "Reginwic" and the Old High German word "hus" (house).

The village belonged on the rule Werenwag for county Hohenberg . With this it came to Front Austria in 1381 , where it remained until it became part of Württemberg in 1805 .

politics

The community is a member of the community administration association Donau-Heuberg , based in Fridingen an der Donau .

Culture and sights

The municipality is affiliated with the "Donaubergland" tourist association. The following attractions are located in the municipality:

  • Church of St. Stephen : built in 1827. The interior of the church was redesigned from 1950 to 1952 and again in 1966 after the Second Vatican Council. The interior of the parish church of St. Stephen owes its current simple appearance to the renovation and redesign in 1992. Every year for Thanksgiving, the interior of the church is decorated with a filigree thanksgiving carpet and the themed harvest altar.
  • Geigersbrunnen and Hohenriedbrunnen : cultural witnesses of the once barren and waterless time on the Alb. Despite their altitude, the wells carry groundwater.
  • Mariengrotte : In 1979 by Robert Käfer and Heinrich Horn from natural stones, so-called cat's heads, built grotto in honor of the Virgin Mary.
  • Stone cross : sandstone cross , also called tailor's cross. The wayside cross dates from the 15th or 16th century and is, according to tradition, an atonement cross of a tailor's apprentice who is said to have killed another tailor's apprentice at this place.
  • Judas Thaddäus Chapel : Built in 1987 on the felt. Around the chapel, in the midst of juniper bushes, there is a way of the cross and an alpine panorama.
  • Fountain: There is a newly captured fountain in front of the town hall. It is decorated by the local homeland association during Easter. The Heimatverein often cooperates with the local kindergarten.
