Mönchweiler is a municipality in Baden-Württemberg and belongs to the Schwarzwald-Baar district .

Geographical location

Mönchweiler is located 732 to 825 meters above sea level on the eastern edge of the central Black Forest on a plateau in the transition to Baar , about 2 km from the district town of Villingen-Schwenningen . The mixture of forest and meadow areas around Mönchweiler is characteristic. The Wolfsteich located between Mönchweiler and Obereschach belongs to the municipality. In the direction of Villingen is the Mönchsee.

Neighboring communities

The community borders in the north on Königsfeld in the Black Forest , in the east and south on Villingen-Schwenningen and in the west on St. Georgen in the Black Forest and Unterkirnach.

Community structure

The community of Mönchweiler includes the village of Mönchweiler and the Zinken Schoren. This is a little special when it comes to church organization. Geographically and administratively it belongs to the municipality of Mönchweiler, the local households have the telephone code from the municipality of Königsfeld (07725) and the postcode is that of the city of St. Georgen (78112). The St. Georgen suburb of Peterzell connects directly to the Zinken.

history

Mönchweiler was first mentioned in a document in 1258 as Mvnechewilar and was largely owned by the St. Georgen Monastery . In 1536 the village became part of Württemberg and Protestant. During the Thirty Years' War and the coalition wars , the place largely shared the fate of the nearby town of Villingen .

Mönchweiler came to the Grand Duchy of Baden in 1810 . Since then the village has belonged to the Baden district of Villingen, from 1939 to the district of Villingen.

“After the creation of the state of Baden-Württemberg in 1951, a few years later there was a regional and administrative reform that is still controversial today. With the formation of the Schwarzwald-Baar district on January 1, 1973, Mönchweiler became a district member here ”.

In 2000 Friedrich Scherer (1958–2020, SPD) was elected as the new mayor and confirmed in office in 2008. In 2016 he no longer competed. The previous mayor of Irndorf Rudolf Fluck (* 1963, CDU) was elected as his successor in the second ballot with 52.1% of the vote. He received only 69 votes more than his competitor Dirk Hausmann.

Since 1983, Mönchweiler has maintained a partnership with the small town of Chabeuil in the south of France , which is located in the Drôme department near the Rhône near Valence in the foothills of the Alps. Representatives of the communities, associations and citizens visit each other again and again for anniversaries of the communities and the partnership.

Culture and sights

Mönchweiler is located on the Ostweg , a long-distance hiking trail that leads past many sights. Mönchweiler also has art that is unique in the region. There are five life-size bronze figures distributed around the village, all financed by donations from citizens and companies and made by Martin Kirstein. An example of this is the monk who sits between the Antoniuskirche and the Arche parish hall opposite the town hall. Diverse art by professionals as well as by hobby artists is also presented through art exhibitions in the town hall and in the village. The redesign of the monk figure typical of Mönchweiler, which used to be a uniform dark blue but now appears in colorful shapes, also contributes to the overall appearance as a commune of art.

Economy and Infrastructure

A total of around 190 companies (tradespeople and craft businesses) offer over 1,100 jobs in Mönchweiler. These include manufacturers such as Wiha, Weißer + Grießhaber and the waste management company Hezel, but also smaller companies and the self-employed.

Mönchweiler is linked to the national road network and the 81 federal highway via the federal highway 33 ( Willstätt - Ravensburg ) and the federal highway 27 (Blankenburg im Harz - Lottstetten). The public transport is operated by the Verkehrsverbund Schwarzwald-Baar .

education

Mönchweiler has a primary school and a community school , which also houses the local library. Mönchweiler also has a children's house that is run by the community and in 2016 replaced the community kindergarten "Villa Kunterbunt", the branch office "Takka Tukka Land" and the Protestant kindergarten.
