Obergurig , Sorbian , is a place and the associated municipality in the Saxon district of Bautzen at the foot of the Mönchswalder Mountain (447 m). The community is part of the Großpostwitz-Obergurig administrative community and is part of the official Sorbian settlement area .
geography
Obergurig is located about 4 km south of the large district town of Bautzen on the northern slope of the Lusatian mountains . The community is bordered by Bautzen and Großpostwitz in the east, Wilthen in the south and Doberschau-Gau says in the west.
Community structure
The municipality of Obergurig consists of seven districts:
- Großdöbschütz (Debsecy) , 226 inhabitants
- Kleindöbschütz (Małe Debsecy) , 212 inhabitants
- Lehn (Lejno) , 68 inhabitants
- Mönchswalde (Mnišonc) with Kleinboblitz (Małe Bobolcy) , 192 inhabitants
- Obergurig (Hornja Hórka) , 487 inhabitants
- Schwarznaußlitz (Čorne Noslicy) , 291 inhabitants
- Singwitz (Dźěžnikecy) , 614 inhabitants

history
Obergurig was first mentioned in 1272 under the name Goric or Goreke .
The place name comes from the Upper Sorbian word hórka (Old Sorbian gorka , in German "hill"), so that Obergurig stands for "Upper village on the hill".
For his statistics on the Sorbian population in Upper Lusatia, Arnošt Muka determined a population of 380 inhabitants in the 1880s; 330 of them were Sorbs (87%) and 50 were Germans. Conditional u. a. Due to the industrialization of the Spree Valley, the Sorbian-speaking population sank to only 35.9% according to Ernst Tschernik by 1956. Today the language has largely disappeared from everyday local life.
On July 1, 1950, the community was re-formed through the merger of the previous communities Großdöbschütz, Mönchswalde and Singwitz.

Since the municipal council election on May 25, 2014 , the 16 seats of the municipal council have been distributed among the individual groups as follows:
- Independent citizens' movement Obergurig (UB): 8 seats
- CDU : 4 seats
- Alternatively for Obergurig (AfO): 3 seats
- LEFT : 1 seat

On June 3, 2007, the successor to Mayor Harald Bayn was elected. 96% of the voters chose the independent applicant Thomas Polpitz, who joined the CDU in 2012. The turnout was 39.3%.

In the Singwitz district, the KesselhausLager Singwitz is located in a former industrial building , a venue for live concerts and parties.
